Self-Quarantine = Quality Family Time

Halo Sahabat Atma, saat ini pasti teman-teman sedang mendukung pemerintah kita melawan #covid-19 dengan #belajaronline dan #dirumahsaja.  Sahabat kita Adella alumni dari  Fakultas Kedokteran dan Ilmu Kesehatan  ingin #berbagikebaikan dengan membuat tulisan mengenai apa sih makna dari karantina mandiri (self quarantine).  Buat Adella, menulis sebagai salah satu cara mengisi hal positif selama dirumah saja.  Yuk kita simak tulisannya :


Quarantine period can be perceived as a boring and non-reproductive time. Staying at home all day seemed to be “torturing” and it gets harder as it continues to go by. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. If you shift your perspectives just by a bit, you can see this moment as the answer to your long-working hours and lack of good quality time problem. Living in such fast-paced era, we often struggle to find me-time and/or family-time with our loved ones, not realizing that it is an important value to hold on to, since it acts an indicator of well-being and good input of self-development for people around us. (1)


Family which comes in many ways and sizes plays an important part of human growth. It acts like a “backbone” and most of times, a safe, supportive and secured environment to explore ourselves in. (2) Activities involved in spending time with family members differ with age; younger children tend to choose some basic activities whereas older children require more interactivity. In general, most common family time activities are eating meals and media-involving acts such as watching TV and playing games. (1) Although not serving the real purpose of bonding time, those are the best they can offer due to the lack of time.


However, since time is abundant, it is the right moment to dwell in to more joint activities. It helps to forge a sense of togetherness that is crucial for children development by enhancing relationships. Furthermore, be a great platform to facilitate communication between each family members. (3) With parents being more attached and emotionally related to their children, it opens up an opportunity to transmit some good patterns of behavior on a frequent scheduled regular basis. In return, with children being closer to their parents, it’s a chance to grow deeper love, respect and understanding of the importance of social bond that shapes well-being and problem-solving behavior. (4) Moreover, having family stability facilitates the development of self-regulatory behaviors in children and adolescents. (5) 


An activity to try that give positive impacts to both parties is short-range planning. This can be achieved by creating a weekly calendar or checklist of study-from-home academic assignments, extracurricular activities and/or household responsibilities. This intervention will help to encourage and guide parents to increase the regularity of family routines that indirectly enhance children’s development of time management skills, which help to shape good time management and responsibility in emerging adulthood. (5) Other than that, exercising together indoor can be an option as well. Having adequate regular physical activity for both young and elderly improves health and promote development of healthy bones and muscles. As a bonus, it helps with weight control and high self-esteem.
